Submissions

We currently have TWO open opportunities!

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Short story erotic fiction

We are currently accepting submissions of erotic short stories for an anthology.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: (Final deadline is May 15, 2014. Earlier entries preferred.)

  • Subject: Tastefully erotic short stories about couples rekindling the flames of passion. Particularly stories that moms/women/wives will love. What does this mean? It means that we’re looking for erotic short stories that would appeal to the average woman. Generally, this means that the characters are not eighteen-year-old Penthouse models with no children. Romantic? Good! Spicy? Great! Super steamy? Even better! Considerably off-color? Fine! Bloodshed? Um, no.
  • Learn more by checking out this anthology’s predecessor, “Ignite.” Ignite Cover 4_edited-1 copy
  • Story length: Up to 5,000 words.
  • Your story has not already been published elsewhere. If you’ve made multiple submissions that’s fine, but if it is accepted for the anthology, you will need to decline having it published elsewhere.

Process for submissions

    • Compose an e-mail to: BrickstonePub “at” gmail “dot” com
    • In subject line, type: SUBMISSION
    • Include a short introduction about yourself, including any work you’ve had previously published, etc.
    • Include your actual name, pen name if applicable, phone number, e-mail address, mailing address, and if you have a website or use any social media, the links
    • Send us your BEST WORK. It should be complete, edited to the best of your ability, and ready-to-go! (A few errors will be okay. A huge mess will be deleted immediately. Please be respectful of our time and your own work by proofreading and fixing up before sending.)
    • Attach your short story to the e-mail in .doc or .docx format (Word)
    • Send us the e-mail
  • If your submission is accepted, you will receive a contract from us offering: $50 compensation, much publicity, impressive credentials, one complimentary copy, and more.
  • If your submission is not accepted, we will still extend you the courtesy of a reply AS LONG AS YOU FOLLOWED THE GUIDELINES.
  • Thank you for your interest. We look forward to reading your work!

Questions you may have

  • Is there anything for the authors to pay? No. This is a reputable publishing company. There is no fee for submitting your story and if your story is accepted, you will be paid $50 and will receive one free copy of the book. (Continental US Shipping only… if you are outside the Continental US, we will still send you a free copy of the book if you pay the shipping.)
  • If my story is accepted, who will retain the rights to the story? The book and all stories in it will have all rights retained by Brickstone Publishing. If your story is accepted, this will be in the contract that will be sent you to to be signed before publication or payment of your $50.
  • Will I receive ongoing royalties? No. You will receive a one-time payment of $50, and Brickstone Publishing will retain all future rights.
  • What can I expect along the lines of publicity, media, etc? We prepare blowout marketing campaigns for all of our books. As part of the group of authors selected to be published in the anthology, you may be invited to participate in some or all: online book tours, mention in print and online advertising, media kits, press releases, live launch parties, and more.

CALL FOR INPUT: Share YOUR life’s lessons for an upcoming advice book!

If your tidbit/s are published in the book, you will receive one free copy! For more information and to access the input form, please go here.

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR WRITERS

If you’re a writer inquiring about direct publishing, please understand that we are a very small press and receive an overwhelming amount of queries.

With the changes in today’s publishing arena, please only contact us if you understand that in today’s landscape, authors are generally required to make an investment of their own time and money in order for a project to be successful. (We understand that this is off-putting… we encourage you to land a major publisher if this doesn’t work for you. And even then, you should expect to work hard at publicity.)

With that said, we may be open to working with the right author on the right project. If we haven’t scared you off, please make note of the following guidelines before contacting us about your project:

  • Your manuscript must be complete, polished, and “ready to go” at 100,000 words or less.
  • We are not interested in sci-fi, fantasy, or anything supernatural of any kind. This includes but is not limited to ghosts, vampires, or characters who have ESP.
  • The only genres we might consider include commercial nonfiction, women’s fiction, literary fiction, a gripping mystery, and some erotica.
  • You are willing to make a commitment of time and effort into promoting your work alongside our staff.
  • You have at least $3,000 to invest in the initial launch expenses and marketing campaign to ensure the success of your book. (If this sounds crazy to you, may we suggest you check out this article on The Huffington Post: “What Your Friends Can’t Tell You About Your Self-Published Book.”)

If your project meets these criteria, please send your one page query, one page synopsis, and first three pages to our mailing address. Yes, seriously. If you are not motivated enough to print five pages and put them in an envelope, chances are we wouldn’t work well together anyway. Please be sure to include your e-mail address and phone number.

Please do not phone our office (unless we’ve replied and asked you to). We promise, we will reply to you whether we’re interested or not (as long as you’ve followed the guidelines).

Thank You!
